Joe Mareane Begins Service as County Administrator

As of today, Joe Mareane is officially on board as Tompkins County’s County Administrator.

Administrator Mareane (pronounced “mar-ee-ANN-na”) began work with the County last week (in an overlap period with retired administrator Steve Whicher) and officially took over as County Administrator this morning, after taking the oath of office before County Clerk Aurora Valenti.

“I’m very pleased to be getting started, and am looking forward to working with the Legislature, County department heads and staff, and the community to address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” said Administrator Mareane. “I consider myself fortunate to be joining a highly respected, top flight organization and will devote myself to maintaining the County’s tradition of efficient, effective and responsive governance.”

Over the next several weeks, the new administrator will be speaking with individual legislators and with department administrators and staff throughout county government, as well as with agency and community representatives. The public is invited to meet Administrator Mareane at a welcome reception to be held in his honor on Thursday, November 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Tompkins County Public Library Borg Warner Room, 101 E. Green Street, Ithaca.
